First Francois, the Founder.
the only POPPess
so far; Great-Aunt
of Louys.
Louys, the current
ruler, when still
Designated Successor.
Louys as he
appears now
(well, years ago,
actually).
Pierre, one of
Louys' sons and a
promising candidate
to the succession.

The current Designated Successor is Bernard, a brother of Louys. He knowns that, would the POPP die prematurately, he would actually only act as a Regent until a younger heir comes to age; he is nonetheless a major character in Monte-Cristo.

DYANE-ADELINE AND THE ADELAIN HORSE BREED.
.
Dyane-Adeline is indirectly at the origin of the very peculiar breed of black and tan hunting *horses* created and maintained by the Ecuries et Equipages in the Presipapal stud farm.
Long before the became the Monte-Cristan ruler, Dyane-Adeline was seduced by a description of the Border Terrier: cute, rustic, courageous, sociable, highly intelligent and extremely affectionate dogs the saw to be in harmony with the Presipality (and indeed the ‘Petits Bordeurs’ are now the favourite dogs in the peninsula, lovely Scoubi being currently the leader –and only member- of Louys’ personal pack). So she managed to have a team of the Foresterie et Venerie sent to the Border to select a founding pack.
There the Monte-Cristan envoys roamed Northumberland to pick dogs from various places, in order to avoid excessive original consanguinity. There in the Cheviot Hills they observed local horses with a striking black and orange coat. Sure Dyane-Adeline would like them, they brought back three stallions and ten mares. The Cheviott horses were of course rather small, so were immediatly crossed with great sipahis horses, while carefully preserving the peculiar coat and the rusticity.
The Adelains are lively, untiring yet easily controlled; they learn well to amble, a step that women riding side saddle generally find more comfortable. Thus a Lady of note visiting the Presipality, if known to like riding, is generally presented with an Adelaine mare as a souvenir gift from Monte-Cristo.
