Currently at the Casino

(last update: O4.16."14)

Disregarding all that good gold they lost, overwealthy strangers smugly smile.

The younger women are Monte-Cristan escorts. With all that young nudity on display everywhere (weather permiting), they are so much more exciting as they are fully clothed. They double as security agents of the Casino, and of course as Police and Surete Nationale informers; some of them even may be infiltrated Presipapal agents, or Police Investigatrices or female Operatives of the (as dread as officially mythical) BSN. The older women are bored foreign widows learning how to spend and waste what they inherited.

Not random 'monitoring': Claire Baizanville, sous-lieutenant aux Gardes de l’Etrier and the most lethal (comments) of BSN Opératifs, immersed among the foreign gamblers : someone is watched...

Young and handsome Monte-Cristan gigolos are here to entertain the dowagers (even the austere, frosty countess Jillianne de la Mothe-Rancy claims to have found her Fontaine de Jouvence here: she is now remarried as Countess Bien-Aimee de Labitte de Monvoisin).

Appropriately the comely croupieres (under the very competent direction of Major Hildegarde Thurgide d'Entreffaisse from Besthaguen-Kegethattakrupp -right) are dressed in virgin white and silver

At the Casino theatre and concert Hall, the Musical Plays season is at its height. A gothic drama retelling a popular German legend has just succeeded an amusing (if somewhat controversial by foreign standards) comedy:

to be replaced next month by 'Encula', a Grand Guignol Horror performance by and with the famous author and singer Zob Rombie.
"Encula es-tu la ?
Rien n'est pire
qu'un vampire :
on enseigne
qu'il vous saigne
dans la nuit
sans un bruit"

A smaller theatre offers more sophisticated shows.

Cosy intimate private rooms are devoted for small groups parties playing games such as "Picol's Dames" ('Drink'n Draughts') where pieces are glasses of white or red wine (or, for rugged players, vodka or rum): you drink what you capture; or ‘Strip Schaffkopf’ (below right) a card game involving as many pretty girls (from the most respectable establishments of the Rue de Bourbon) as playing guests and merry alcohol consumption. In these rooms even more than elsewhere walls have BSN ears and eyes.

The Casino, together with the Bains-Thermes and the Paris H. Palace (Palace = a luxury hotel in Franglais) are State owned and under a common executive staff, under three Executive Directors, Mrs Creutzfeldt, Jacob & Delafon (while the Grand Parc Recreatif between the Baths and the Casino is controlled by the Academie des Sciences et Arts, because of the Menagerie –Kahn it is called– and Jardin Medicinal & Botanique –Thamerre; the later specially proud, among numerous exotic species, of the groves of that remarkable Cupressaceae, the Epicea Larrey and of Spermambar sorarsus from the Iles Amalocu).

Programme des visites de jardins privés encadrées par des botanistes du Parc:
18 mars, visite du jardin alpin de Mme Lebreton
25 mars, visite de la cressonière de Mlle Lamoure.

Even in the deep of winter foreign ladies (here Lady Shagwell -born Bien-Aimee de Labitte de Monvoisin- and the Marquise Clytorisse de Laray-Joyeuse) stalk hungrily our gardeners. Imagine how they behave during el tens clar (the fair season), when the not-so-unfortunate boys wear only a straw hat...

Close to the Casino, and not far from the sea («On sent la mer d’ici !»), the Theatre de Verdure (Open Air Opera) welcomes the audience among the roses and mimosas. There, while the Annual festival of Baroque music currently takes place at day, a spectacular ‘equestrian musical’ ‘Le Voyage de Bartabas aux Indes galantes’, will be performed every second night until next month, in alternance with Les Indes galantes.

For the patrons who find more intimacy in apparent isolation, a set of charming individual houses, scattered among topiary gardens and groves, is annexed to the Hotel:

.
Les Cenobites Tranquilles.

Monte-Cristans make fun of the 'unleashed' behavior of those so far prudish foreigners:

According to these popular images, foreign visitors relaxed in our Presipality
before the Casino was built
